The ORF, state-owned television network, warns that fake emails are currently circulating, promising an alleged refund of the ORF contribution from the fee subsidiary ORF Beitrags Service GmbH (OBS). This is a phishing attempt to steal account data.

The emails look deceptively genuine. It reads: “Following a review of your recent payments, we have determined that you are entitled to a refund of 34.40 euros. To avoid any delays, please complete the form using the following link.”
Never disclose personal data
If you click the link, you will be redirected to a website. This page is designed in the ORF contribution service OBS style and gives a trustworthy impression. However, the ORF warns that the company would never send an e-mail asking you to enter personal data via a link or fill out forms.
The OBS also warns against these scam messages: “Forward suspicious emails to us: service@orf.beitrag.at. Delete the email after forwarding it, and do not open any attachments or links.” Anyone who has already entered data should immediately contact their bank to avoid possible damage.
