A new ranking selects the best cafés in the world. A Viennese establishment is the “best coffee shop in Europe” among the top three worldwide.
The coffee shop is around the corner, the coffee house is on the square, and the bakery is on the way to work. When it comes to the best coffee, everyone has their own opinion. However, Timeout magazine has selected the 100 best cafés in the world. “Gota Coffee Experts” comes out on top twice in the ranking.
In the recently published “The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops” ranking, the barista and roaster from Vienna secured the title of best coffee shop in Europe. In a global comparison, the Viennese caffeine junkies even took third place – as only one of two stores in Europe!
Markus and Katharina Brun have been running the store at the back of Mariahilferstrasse for more than seven years. The siblings started with just eight seats and have continued to grow ever since. Today they are European champions. In addition to coffee, they also offer breakfast and coffee-related workshops.
“This award means an incredible amount to us. Since day one, our aim has been to serve coffee at the highest level and create an atmosphere that focuses on quality, coffee knowledge and hospitality,” explain the new European coffee champions.
By the way, you have to travel quite a bit further in the first place. Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters took the gold medal with a flagship store in Sydney, Australia. If you want to try the coffee for yourself, Sydney is not exactly on your bucket list: There are also branches in Indonesia, Kuwait, Singapore, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
The silver medal goes to the USA with Onyx Coffee Lab, which operates four stores in Northwest Arkansas.
Numerous aspects were evaluated for the world’s top 100 cafés, including coffee quality, barista expertise, innovation, and sustainability, the food on offer, the atmosphere, and service on-site.
A public vote accounted for 30 percent of the final rating, while the judgment of a panel of experts was weighted at 70 percent.
