Chancellor Sebastian Kurz warns of further infection increase in autumn and winter and gives hope for 2021.

“We are facing a difficult autumn and winter”, says Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, thus warning the population that there would surely be again “temporary tightenings” of measures against the further spread of the corona virus.

The Chancellor wants to raise awareness of the fact that we must expect the situation to worsen in Austria as well – especially when it gets cooler and people are once again increasingly sitting together in closed rooms.

Relief thanks to vaccination and medication
But for the first time, the Chancellor is also making people sit up and take notice with some really good news. After the winter there could be the breakthrough we had hoped for. After several discussions with scientists – among others with geneticist Josef Penninger, who is researching an anti-Covid drug – the head of government says: “It is to be expected that next year there will be a strong relief through possible vaccines and drugs. This should lead to the fact that “probably in the course of 2021 we will be able to lead our normal life again”.

The message from Sebastian Kurz is clear: we must hold out for a few more months, then the pandemic should be under control again worldwide faster than expected.

Kurz also reports that vaccines are being researched worldwide and that the EU is making several promising preparations safe for all EU citizens. Several of these substances are promising and could lead to the pandemic being effectively managed.

He will also discuss the development of new testing methods on Friday. In addition to the existing PCR coronavirus tests and antibody tests, which are expected to become increasingly accurate, work is also being done on reliable rapid tests. This would also help to get the pandemic under control more quickly. Until then, the population would have to prepare for difficult months in autumn and winter. But at least there is “good news” for 2021.
