According to data published for the first time, 37,740 people over the age of 85 have been vaccinated so far – i.e. every sixth person in this age group. In total, according to the Electronic Vaccination Record (as of Monday evening), 221,637 people have received at least the first vaccination. That represents 2.5 percent of the population. Most of those are under 65.
Residents of nursing homes and homes for the elderly, as well as those over 80, are at the top of the government’s vaccination schedule. However, priority is not just based on age: health care workers and caregivers and people who regularly work in homes are also in “Phase 1A” of the vaccination schedule.
This also hits the age statistics of those vaccinated so far, published for the first time on Wednesday. According to the figures, a total of 221,637 people have been vaccinated with at least a first dose, of whom 135,190 were under 65 and 86,447 were older. In total, 91,761 persons received the second dose necessary for full vaccination protection (of which 32,998 were over 65).
In the age group of those over 85, one in six has already received a vaccination. The vaccination coverage rate here is 16.7 percent. However, the calculation is still based on the population status from the beginning of 2020. Statistics Austria will publish the current population data on Thursday. In addition, the entries in the electronic vaccination register lag somewhat behind the actual vaccinations.
In any case, the data from the Electronic Vaccination Register show that the vaccines from Moderna and Astrazeneca have hardly been used so far. According to the Ministry of Health, 36,000 doses have been supplied by each of the two manufacturers to date, but only 5,857 (Moderna) and 399 (Astrazeneca) have been “vaccinated.” The majority of vaccinations to date have been with the active ingredient from Biontech/Pfizer. First and second doses together accounted for 307,142 vaccinations.
